THE MUSE — My Mother’s Curl Story
Growing up in rural Mexico, my mother spent most of her life believing her curls were something to hide.
She grew up in a place where her curls were misunderstood, labeled greñuda “messy.” Combined with limited access to products and never knowing how to style her hair, she bleached and mistreated her hair. But I saw beauty in every curl she tried to change. And when I enrolled in formulation it was my mission to create products that ignited her to reconnect with the beauty she was born with. Today, she tells me: Her hair feels softer, her curls feel alive again “Amo an mis rizos.” This transformation inspired our Curl Ritual — a love letter to the curls that raised me.
ANCESTRAL ROOTS — My Grandmother’s Plant Magic
My grandmother was the first healer in our family. She used the marijuana plant to create a tincture to soothe aches, calm inflammation, and support healing.
When I became a formulator, I chose hemp protein because it honors the same plant wisdom used by my abuelita to heal her knee pain from years of hard labor. Phenoxyethanol is a preservative commonly found in many “clean” and natural curl products. While it’s widely used, some research and consumer advocacy groups have raised questions about its potential interaction with the endocrine system. Out of an abundance of care and alignment with our formulation philosophy, we choose alternative ingredient systems instead.
